Summary:Changes in spectral properties and net photosynthesis of maize leaves ( Zea mays cv. McCreedy 7676) in response to various levels of soil anaerobiosis were examined under controlled soil redox potential and environmental conditions. A close correlation was found between changes in transmittance in the near-infrared portion of the soectrum, the ratio of green to red absorbance, net photosynthesis, and decreasing soil redox potential. These results indicate that leaf spectral characteristics can be used as an effective tool to monitor and evaluate various levels of flood stress in plants.
