Abstract The use of GC-Fourier transform (FT) IR of methylsilyl ethers of disaccharides to positively identify disaccharides is reported for the first time. The use of dimethylsilyl ethers is not recommended as their instability, under the required operating conditions, resulted in fragmentation and rearrangements.
