Summary:Laser light scattering has been employed to investigate changes in the hydrodynamic properties of δ-endotoxin crystals of Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki HD1. Crystals are polydisperse. Estimates of the mean hydrodynamic diameter agree with those obtained by light microscopy. Sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) at a final concentration of 1% results in swelling of the toxin crystals. Dithiothreitol-induced solubilization of the swollen crystals indicates the importance of disulphide bridges to the maintenance of the assembled crystal.
