Relaxing nucleosynthesis bounds on sterile neutrinos

We have analyzed the constraints arising from nucleosynthesis on possible oscillation between a doublet neutrino ( ν e , ν μ or ν τ ) and a sterile neutrino ( ν s ) in the presence of their couplings to a majoron. The bounds on the mixing angle and mass-squared difference derived previously based on...

Summary:We have analyzed the constraints arising from nucleosynthesis on possible oscillation between a doublet neutrino ( ν e , ν μ or ν τ ) and a sterile neutrino ( ν s ) in the presence of their couplings to a majoron. The bounds on the mixing angle and mass-squared difference derived previously based on the standard model interactions are found to be weakened by several orders of magnitude. For the case of a 17 keV pseudo-Dirac ν τ , the constraint on the singlet-doublet mass splitting is relaxed to | δm 2|⩽ O(10) eV 2.
