Summary:Absorption spectra of Pr 3+, Nd 3+ and Tm 3+ ions in Potassium Sodium Phosphate (PPSP) glass were recorded in the UV-Visible and NIR regions. Various Spectroscopic parameters were evaluated. The Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters were determined from the observed intensities of the absorption bands. Radiative lifetimes (τ R) and branching ratios (β) were evaluated for the fluorescent levels. The splittings observed in the second derivative spectra of certain bands are satisfactorily explained as due to the resolution of the electronic levels of Nd 3+ ion in the neodymium doped glass and the superposition of the vibrational modes of the PO 3− 4 radical on the electronic levels of the Tm 3+ ion in the thulium doped glass.
