Anomalous anomalies in the Carlip-Kallosh quantization of the Green-Schwarz superstring

The cancellation of conformal and gravitational anomalies in the free Green-Schwarz superstring in the semi-covariant formulation of Carlip and Kallosh is re-examined, and it is found to take place between non-local and local but non-polynomial parts of the effective action. Summary:The cancellation of conformal and gravitational anomalies in the free Green-Schwarz superstring in the semi-covariant formulation of Carlip and Kallosh is re-examined, and it is found to take place between non-local and local but non-polynomial parts of the effective action. Anomalously, the total effective action does not vanish itself, but contains terms which violate the ten-dimensional Lorentz invariance of the model.
