A new aromatic organometallic nonlinear optical crystal: [Bis-4-nitropyridine-N-oxide cadmium chloride]

Summary:A new nonlinear optical crystal BPONCC [Bis-4-nitropyridine-N- oxide cadmium chloride, Cd(NO 2C 5H 4NO) 2Cl 2], as a derivative of 4-nitropyridine-N-oxide, is reported for the first time. Preliminary results show that its powder intensity is about 8.2 times higher than that of urea, and the transparency cut-off wavelength is almost same as that of 3-methyl-4-nitropyridine-N-oxide (POM), which is about 420nm. Its melting point is much higher than that of the other 4-nitropyridine-N-oxide derivatives. The crystal structure belongs to space group Fdd2 with cell parameters a = 11.644 A ̊ , b = 50.025 A ̊ , c = 3.808 A ̊ .
