Microstructures of binary organic eutectics

Microstructures of benzoic acid-benzamide, benzoic acid-diphenylamine, α-naphthylamine-diphenylamine, p-nitrophenol-trichloroacetic acid and resorcinol-catechol systems which form a faceted-faceted (f/f) class of the eutectics, have been investigated. Summary:Microstructures of benzoic acid-benzamide, benzoic acid-diphenylamine, α-naphthylamine-diphenylamine, p-nitrophenol-trichloroacetic acid and resorcinol-catechol systems which form a faceted-faceted (f/f) class of the eutectics, have been investigated. Eutectics and their constituent materials, grown unidirectionally and randomly show quite distinct crystallographic morphologies. The growth front for all the systems is molecularly smooth showing that the growth occured in steps. The eutectics have quasi-regular structures at moderate growth rates whereas these structures are anomalous at very slow and fast growth rates. The mechanism of the formation of microstructures has been discussed.
