Summary:By numerical simulations of the SU(2) lattice gauge theory we show the density of monopoles, which occupy several lattice cells (extended monopoles), to be strongly correlated with the string tension during cooling of the gauge fields. This result obtained for the maximal abelian gauge indicates that the string between quark and antiquark is the dual analog of the Abrikosov vortex in the superconductor. If monopoles are extracted by means of a non-renormalizable gauge they do not seem to be correlated with the string tension. As the order parameter we use the dimension of the monopole current line.
