Niobium and tantalum methyl complexes containing imido and cyclopentadienyl ligands. Crystal structure of [Nb(μ-C 5H 5)(N tBu)(Me)(Cl)]

Mono- and di-methyl complexes of the type (η-C 5H 5)Nb-(NR)(Me)(Cl) (R  tBu, 2,6- iPr 2C 6H 3) and (η-C 5Me 5)M(N-2,6- iPr 2C 6H 3)(Me) 2 (M  Nb, Ta) have been prepared by treatment of (η-C 5R′ 5)M(NR)(Cl 2) with one or two equivalents of methylmagnesium chloride respectively. Trimethylphosphine a...

Summary:Mono- and di-methyl complexes of the type (η-C 5H 5)Nb-(NR)(Me)(Cl) (R  tBu, 2,6- iPr 2C 6H 3) and (η-C 5Me 5)M(N-2,6- iPr 2C 6H 3)(Me) 2 (M  Nb, Ta) have been prepared by treatment of (η-C 5R′ 5)M(NR)(Cl 2) with one or two equivalents of methylmagnesium chloride respectively. Trimethylphosphine adducts are readily formed from the mono-methyl but not from the dimethyl compounds. The molecular structure of (η-C 5H 5)Nb(N tBu)(Me)(Cl) is reported.
