Summary: | Seven new members of the misfit layer family with the general formula “LnNb
2S
5” (Ln=La, Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Er and also Y) have been prepared and studied by X-ray powder diffraction. Electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility were measured. All materials are metals and none of them is superconducting. They show very different magnetic behaviour which is mainly determined by the rare earth element in the structure. |
