Summary:Cerium(IV) oxazoline derivatives Ce(Me 2oxaz) 4 ( 1) [Me 2oxazH=2-(2 ′-hydroxyphenyl)-4-dimethyl)oxazoline] and Ce(Pr i Hoxaz) 4 ( 2) [Pr i HoxazH=2-(2 ′-hydroxyphenyl)-4-isopropyl)oxazoline] were prepared in high yields by ligand exchange reactions between Ce 2(OPr i ) 8(Pr i OH) 2 and the corresponding 2-(2 ′-hydroxyphenyl)-2-oxazolines. Characterisation was achieved by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR and mass spectroscopy (MS). 2 was also characterized by polarimetric measurement. Their thermal decomposition pathways under nitrogen were studied by TGA and coupled TGA-CG/MS experiments.
