Summary:The silica-filler dispersion and flocculation behavior in styrene-butadiene rubber was examined on the basis of the viscoelastic properties and the formation of the filler-gel. The evaluation method of dispersion with viscoelastic properties, which we have proposed, was revealed to clarify the difference in dispersion and aggregation among the various types of silica with or without silane (specific surface area and surface activity). As a result the aggregation or agglomeration behavior in various silica-filled SBR compounds was elucidated by the degree of reagglomeration of silica. It was revealed that the size of aggregates or agglomerates is closely related to the formation of the filler-gel. Moreover, we confirmed the detailed particulars about silica-rubber interaction in the filler-gel.
