Summary:The string model for the hadrons offers a classical description of high energy collisions which accounts for the following features: leading particle effect, limiting fragmentation, rapidity plateau, logarithmic growth of multiplicity, small transverse momenta. A simplified two-dimensional model allows us to study quantitatively these properties as well as the effect of SU(3) mass breaking. The relevance of this model to current-induced reactions is discussed, and some predictions are made concerning e +e − → hadrons.
