Transient ion pairs from OH-radical reactions: Pulse radiolysis of aqueous alkyl iodide solutions

Pulse radiolysis studies of aqueous alkyl iodide solutions reveal the existence of the transient ion pair (HOI−.R+)aq. This species is formed by OH-radical reaction with the alkyl iodide followed by a rapid solvent-assisted rearrangement from the outer to the inner charge-transfer complex.
