l-arabinose and sucrose. Enzymic hydrolysis of this material was consistent with it being α (1 → 4) (1 → 6) glucan. The iodine absorption spectra and gel chromatographic behaviour on Sepharose CL-2B of extracts at 4 days and later after imbibition indicated that the polysaccharide was starch-like. The amylose percentage increased with time of germination. The material extracted at 2 days contained no significant amount of amylose and the gel chromatographic behaviour differed somewhat from that of amylopectin. |
