Summary:Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) isozymes from various tissues of adult and embryo mandarin fish at different development stages were analyzed by the combination of vertical starch gel etectrophoresis and immunochemical techniques. LDH isozymes from various tissues are encoded by Ldh-A, Ldh-B, Ldh-C genetic loci. The products of both Ldh-A and Ldh-B polymerize to LDH-A 4, A 2B 2, B 4. LDH-A 4 is predominant in the muscle and LDH-B 4 in the heart. The electrophoretic mobility of LDH-A 4 is higher than that of LDH-B 4. This distribution differs from that in many other teleosts in which LDH-B 4 migrates faster than LDH-A 4. LDH-C 4 eye-band is present at the anodal side in the electrophoregram. This differs from many other teleosts in which Ldh-C is expressed in the liver and LDH-C 4 is present at the cathodal side in the electrophoregram. During embryonic development, LDH-A 4 is present at all stages of embryonic development. LDH-B 4 is absent in the initial stages of embryonic development; however, its expression is initiated at the gastrula stage.
