Grafting stimuli-responsive polymer brushes to freshly-etched porous silicon

This work describes a simple two‐step method for grafting thermoresponsive amine‐terminated poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) brushes to thin films of freshly‐etched porous Si. Grafting is achieved by pre‐hydrosilylation of the hydride‐terminated porous Si with undecylenic acid. The end carboxyl groups ar...

Summary:This work describes a simple two‐step method for grafting thermoresponsive amine‐terminated poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) brushes to thin films of freshly‐etched porous Si. Grafting is achieved by pre‐hydrosilylation of the hydride‐terminated porous Si with undecylenic acid. The end carboxyl groups are activated and reacted with amine‐terminated poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide). Attachment of the polymer to the porous Si is confirmed by Fourier‐transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
