Summary:We report here the synthesis and characterization of a new heteroleptic ruthenium(II) complex and its applications as efficient light‐harvesting sensitizer in functional dye‐sensitized solar cells. The relation between the interfacial charge‐transfer processes that govern the device performance and the cell efficiency under illumination are also discussed. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2008) We describe a new ruthenium heteroleptic complex that shows enhanced photocurrent when used as sensitizer in dye‐sensitised solar cells. The complex shows an IPCE at the maximum absorbance wavelength exceeding the performance of a commonly used ruthenium homoleptic complex under the same conditions.
