Influence of Electrolyte Composition on Electrode Kinetics in the Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell

Potential step techniques were used to study the electrode kinetics for fuel oxidation on Ni(99.995%) and Co(99.99+%) electrodes in molten carbonate electrolyte mixtures (Li2CO3/38M% K2CO3; Li2CO/348M%NA2CO3: and Li2CO3/31.5M%NaCO3/25M%K2CO3). Polarization curves and plots of current densities vs H2...

Summary:Potential step techniques were used to study the electrode kinetics for fuel oxidation on Ni(99.995%) and Co(99.99+%) electrodes in molten carbonate electrolyte mixtures (Li2CO3/38M% K2CO3; Li2CO/348M%NA2CO3: and Li2CO3/31.5M%NaCO3/25M%K2CO3). Polarization curves and plots of current densities vs H2 content of the fuels used (10-70%) are presented. The kinetics of the electrode reactions, the electrochemical performance of the electrodes and the reaction mechanism are discussed. 22 refs.
