The Design and Performance of Multiwire Proportional Chambers for High Flux Beam Monitoring

Summary: | Multiwire proportional chambers with 1 mm-pitch anode wires and carbon-coated cathode planes were constructed and used to monitor a high-intensity beam. The chambers have been operated with more than 98% efficiency over one year long experiments and showed no deterioration after an injection of 10

particles. The chamber system has been used to measure the momenta as well as the trajectories of incident particles on an event-by-event basis. A typical momentum resolution (FWHM) of 0.5% was achieved. |
