Origin, evolution, and imaging of vortices in proton-hydrogen collisions

Using a novel computational approach, we have elucidated the origin of unexpected vortices in atomic collisions. It is shown how they could be observed in experiments and how they play a new and wide ranging role in angular momentum transfer.
