Summary:Functional materials of cedar sawdust with phosphoric acid were prepared and the characteristics of their adsorption for Mg2+ and alkaline earth metal ions were studied. The cedar sawdust was pretreated with potassium hydroxide solution at room temperature. Next modified cedar sawdust was reacted with phosphoryl chloride in ether. The optimum pH range for the adsorption of alkaline earth metal ions was 9.0–14. The adsorption capacity was 1.02 meq g−1-R. The adsorption was rapid; the adsorption equilibrium was attained within about 10 min. Thus, the synthesized functional material could be used in a column with a high flow rate. By using boric acid- tartaric acid- 2,6 pyridine dicarboxylic acid buffer solution and hydrochloric acid, the woody functional material containing phosphoric acid could be utilized for the mutual separation of Ca2+-Mg2+ and Ba2+-Sr2+.
