Summary:ABSTRACT Pigtail catheter drainage is commonly performed for pleural effusion drainage. It should be noted that if the catheter is not connected to a closed system such as a chest bottle, outside air may enter; causing iatrogenic pneumothorax. Pigtail catheter drainage is commonly performed for pleural effusion drainage; however, if the catheter is not connected to a closed system such as a chest bottle, as it happened in the case presented here, outside air may enter, causing iatrogenic pneumothorax. Case presentation and treatment are detailed here.
