Alkylation of alpha-halo diketones via enol phosphate intermediate

beta-Substituted alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds were obtained in moderate to high yields by a 1,4-addition of organocuprates to enol phosphate intermediates formed in situ from triethyl phosphite and 2-bromo-1,3-dicarbonyl compounds.
