Summary: | Catalytic activities of p-toluenesulfonic acid, its homologs and eutectic mixtures of these compounds in both solid and molten states were investigated. The acid strengths of these compounds in the molten state, determined by indicators such as anthraquinone, were stronger than those in the solid state. The reaction rates of isomerization of butene in molten catalyst were also faster than those in solid catalyst. It was found from the reaction paths of isomerization that the porous polymer was superior to active carbon as support to maintain the molten state of the catalyst. The catalyst in molten state was not poisoned by water. Furthermore, the hydration of propylene was effectively catalyzed by molten p-toluenesulfonic acid on porous polymer. |
