Summary:This article estimates the dynamic effects of the free trade area between the European Union (EU) and the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), which is set to be completed by the year 2010. The application of a balance of payments Constrained Growth Model to annual data on Algerian imports quantifies significant growth effects. In the long run, the country's GDP growth rate is estimated to be almost seven times higher under free trade.
