Summary:In the present research work, synthesis and characterization of in-situ Al-TiC composites reinforced with ceramic phases was carried out. The formation of undesirable TiAl3 particles could be avoided justifying the correct procedural requirement adopted while preparing Al-TiC composites. It was observed that distributions of reinforced particles were uniform along the grain boundaries. It was also observed that the average size of the TiC particles was of 0.5 μm. It was also noted that the presence of TiC particles in the composite enhances the yield strength and hardness substantially.
