Summary:LiYGeO4 samples were synthesized using the solid-state method, and the XRD analysis showed that the best phase purity was obtained at a sintering temperature of around 1080 °C. Additionally, the inclusion of additional lithium carbonate during synthesis improved both phase purity and photoluminescence in dysprosium-doped samples. The photoluminescence measurements indicated that LiYGeO4:Dy is a yellow phosphor (λmax=576.5 nm). In this study, we also conducted investigations into emission lifetimes and quantum yields, which are discussed in detail. Overall, our findings demonstrate the potential of LiYGeO4:Dy as a promising luminescent material with tunable emission properties. •Pristine and Dy-doped LiYGeO4 samples were prepared by solid-state synthesis.•Using additional Li2CO3 in starting mixture improves phase purity and PL intensity.•Dy-doped samples exhibited yellow emission with highest peak at 576 nm.
