A synthesis of homosafranic acid and related compounds
A four step sequence was found to convert 2,2,6-trimethylcyclohexanone, 1 , to 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2,6,6-trimethyl-1,3-cyclohexadiene, 2 a (overall yield 76%). An efficient route to homosafranic acid 3 is also described (overall yield 80% from ketone 1 ).
