Summary:In this paper, a simple structure benefits from biased graphene rings with a nonlinear THz wave mixer application. According to the impedance matching concept, the device impedance is set to minimize absorption while transmission and reflection channels can be considered as outputs. Exploiting both full wave approach and equivalent circuit model simulations results in two distinct sources involving 1–2 THz and 4–6 THz simultaneously while different biases result in multiple functionalities. Interestingly both output channels show some frequencies between 2 and 4 THz which are produced by the nonlinear intrinsic resonance of the device and intervention caused by two distinct source radiations. The presented structure can be considered as an adjustable device to manipulate THz waves regarding transmitting and reflection. Such a simple and sensitive structure to external bias stimulation is in great demand for medical imaging, security, indoor communication, and wave detection sensors.
