Summary:Imines are organic moieties associated with numerous frameworks and show applications in organic synthesis, medicine, chemical analysis, and new technologies. Schiff’s base-associated materials are a boon for the advancement in the chemical sciences which enables dynamic and tunable properties to cater to science and technology demands as and when required. Schiff base reactions are facile to conduct in aqueous/organic solutions which incorporate and coordinate to form stable molecules. The review focuses on studying the coordination behaviour through structural variations by incorporating an azomethine ligand in the organic and inorganic frameworks, viz. dendrimers, inclusion complexes, and zeolites. The design and development of functionalized multifunctional azomethine (–C=N–) ligand owing to diversified structural entity offer a unified platform for the storage of gaseous molecules, material adsorption, optical sensors, catalysts, drug delivery channels, dyes, and pigments. The interaction of Schiff base with other substances tailoring desired characteristics that explore several dimensions of such assemblages and ordered metal-coordinated Schiff's base-derived complexes is necessary to offer a vast array of advanced materials.
