Summary:This work is an attempt to estimate the effect of the exchanging of PbO with NiO on the optical and structural parameters for some borate-lead-lanthanum glass. The fast-cooling method was used to prepare the studied glass while XRD and FTIR were used to check their internal structures. XRD showed that all the studied samples are of high homogenous amorphous natures. The incorporation of NiO on the glass matrix acted to decrease the glass density and indirect optical bandgap, increase both the glass molar volume and the value of the refractive index. Also, the incorporation of NiO caused the Fermi level to be shifted toward the valence band.
