Summary:A new Al 1.5 CoCrFeNi 2 high entropy alloy is assessed for bond coat applications using cyclic oxidation at 1050 °C for 50 h. The alloy exhibits significantly lower and constant weight gain of 0.36 mg/cm 2 throughout the test duration, and the oxidation resistance is comparable to commercially used MCrAlY bond coat materials. The better oxidation resistance of the alloy is ascribed to the presence of sufficient Al content in it and the formation of stable α-Al 2 O 3 oxides which prevents further oxidation by suppressing the ingress of oxygen into the sample. The magnitude of compressive residual stress in alumina ranges from − 450 to − 1800 MPa which is less than that of commercial bond coat materials.
