Summary:Purpose of Review The use of high-frequency ultrasound has increased dramatically in musculoskeletal and neuromuscular applications in recent years. This article reviews more recent innovation in high-frequency ultrasound and the relative value of use in peripheral nerve trauma. Recent Findings There has been dramatic innovation in high-frequency diagnostic ultrasound recently with marked improvements in image quality and spatial resolution. Ultrasound has a number of advantages over other forms of imaging for assessment of peripheral nerves. It also provides invaluable anatomic information in the context of peripheral nerve trauma and serves as an important adjunct to electrophysiologic testing. Summary High-frequency ultrasound has been a progressively improving technology that provides valuable diagnostic information and should be considered an essential modality for evaluating peripheral nerve trauma.
