Summary:This paper presents a novel Electro-Combustion Forging (ECF) process, for the processing of intermetallics and their composites. The effect of forging strain on microstructure and properties for processed Ni-Ti/CNT reactive powder compacts was studied. Products largely consisted of highly dense intermetallic regions with porosity levels as low as 0.3 pct. An increase in forging strain was also found to result in microstructural refinement leading to microhardness levels as high as 706 HV.
