Summary: | To the Editor:
Daniel S. Greenberg's report* on military medicine was most timely. Six years after the end of the doctor draft and the Berry Plan system of deferment, the press is mentioning rumors of the need to resume these programs to alleviate a putative shortage of military physicians. I have been surprised to see little comment in the medical journals. Having just completed two frustrating, unnecessary years of military service, I think that the medical community should discuss these issues so that future medical-school classes do not have to waste two years in an archaic system of medical care. . . . |
