Collisional detachment of electrons and ion molecule reactions in oxygen

Collisional detachment in oxygen was studied for pressures of about 20-60 Torr and with mass analysis which also allowed conversion rates to be calculated. For O - , delta 1 /N (detachment coefficient/gas density) was found to be about 5*10 -18 cm 2 at E/N (field strength/gas density) of about 50 Td...

Summary:Collisional detachment in oxygen was studied for pressures of about 20-60 Torr and with mass analysis which also allowed conversion rates to be calculated. For O - , delta 1 /N (detachment coefficient/gas density) was found to be about 5*10 -18 cm 2 at E/N (field strength/gas density) of about 50 Td where for O 2 - , delta 2 /N approximately 1*10 -18 cm 2 . The need for an accurate measurement of the conversion rate for O - to O 2 - is emphasized.
