Summary:The flow velocioy inside the hydrocyclone is measured by LDV (Laser Doppler Velocimeter) for the conventional hydrocyclone and the cyclone with an inner perforated cylinder. Two types of the perforation are used, i.e., low porosity and high porosity cylinders. It is found that the tangential velocity in the hydrocyclone with the perforated inner cylinder behaves like a forced vortex near the central part of the hydrocyclone and like quasi-free vortex outside the forced vortex. The flow inside the conventional hydrocyclone has a high upstream and a large tangential velocity in the region next to the inner air core and the forced and quasi-free vortices follow outside this region.
