Summary:The electronic structure and optical absorption spectra of coupled quantum wires InAsxP1—x/InP are studied within the framework of the effective‐mass envelope‐function theory. The valence subband dispersion, the energy levels at the Γ‐point, the squared optical transition matrix elements, and the absorption spectra near the band edge are calculated. The coupling effects among heavy hole, light hole, and spin‐split‐off bands are presented.
