Summary:The authors'research group planned to run the welding experiments of SUS304 stainless steel by Space GHTA (Gas Hollow Tungsten Arc) welding in a vacuum chamber for its space applications. The results may be summarized as follows. (1) The characteristics of welding current-arc voltage and the melting characteristics in Space GHTA welding are clarified. (2) There are no welding defects like the blow hole and welding crack in melt-run welding joints by Space GHTA welding and conventional GTA welding in the air. (3) The tensile strength and elongation of GHTA welded joints are approximately the same value as those of GTA welded joints and base metal.
