New Vanadium Germanium Garnets

New vanadatogermanates Ca 3– x Me 2 + x V 2 GeO 12 , Ca 3 Mе 2 VGe 2 O 12 , and Ca 3 Me 2 Ge 3 O 12 , where Me = Mg, Mn, Co, Ni, Fe, Zn, and x = 0–1, have been synthesized through coupled substitutions of cations in the initial garnets Ca 2.5 Mn 2 V 3 O 12 or Ca 3 Fe 2 Ge 3 O 12 . The unit cell para...

Summary:New vanadatogermanates Ca 3– x Me 2 + x V 2 GeO 12 , Ca 3 Mе 2 VGe 2 O 12 , and Ca 3 Me 2 Ge 3 O 12 , where Me = Mg, Mn, Co, Ni, Fe, Zn, and x = 0–1, have been synthesized through coupled substitutions of cations in the initial garnets Ca 2.5 Mn 2 V 3 O 12 or Ca 3 Fe 2 Ge 3 O 12 . The unit cell parameters of the synthesized samples have been determined. Probability analysis of the cation distribution in the octahedral positions of the crystal lattice as a function of crystallographic radii has been performed taking into account the spin state of the cations.
