Summary:A simple and reliable way of determining the potential of a laboratory silver/silver chloride electrode (SSCE) is proposed, based on measuring the emf of a galvanic cell composed of silver/silver chloride and copper/copper sulfate (copper in a saturated aqueous solution of copper sulfate) electrodes. The standard thermodynamic characteristics of the reduction of a hexacyanoferrate(III) ion to hexacyanoferrate(II) in an aqueous solution are determined using the determined values of the SSCE potential.
