Study of Mechanical Characteristics of Advanced Aluminum-Matrix Composites Reinforced with SiC and Al2O3

Aluminum-matrix composite materials fabricated by liquid-phase stirring and reinforced with SiC particles and Al 2 O 3 discrete nanofibers have been studied. The increase in the yield strength by 50% is achieved by the introduction of 1% of Al 2 O 3 nanofibers fixed on copper. The increase in streng...

Summary:Aluminum-matrix composite materials fabricated by liquid-phase stirring and reinforced with SiC particles and Al 2 O 3 discrete nanofibers have been studied. The increase in the yield strength by 50% is achieved by the introduction of 1% of Al 2 O 3 nanofibers fixed on copper. The increase in strength of aluminum-matrix composites by grain refinement corresponds to the Hall–Petch equation. The correction factor (0.25–0.3) was established and experimentally confirmed for predicting of the strength of aluminum-matrix composites using measurements of the HB hardness.
