Summary:An analysis of 428 geobotanical descriptions of steppe vegetation in the Bashkir Trans-Urals has revealed plant species that indicate a relationship between the communities and soil moisture and stoniness. We use the ANOVA-based technique of defining indicator species groups for uneven complexes. The role of indicator species groups in diagnostic combinations of Trans-Ural higher rank steppe syntaxa that represent the steppe vegetation of the region has been determined.
