Summary:The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence, causes and awareness about various factors related to hair loss in subjects of Delhi and the National Capital Region of India. A survey-based study was conducted with 380 participants. Total dissolved solids level of water samples used for hair wash was also analysed. Majority of subjects (96.5%) were affected with hair loss. High percentage of subjects were unaware about the role of diet (94%), iron content (77.65%), hormonal level (89.92%) and genetic factors (93.19%) with respect to hair loss. Persistent, long-term hair loss is an indicator of some disturbance in physiological or environmental factors. Therefore, it is imperative to generate awareness among the population at regular intervals.
