Summary:We have examined the effect of metal compounds on α-Si 3 N 4 formation as a result of silicon combustion in nitrogen in the presence of organic compounds. The results demonstrate that the iron and copper chlorides FeCl 3 · 6Н 2 О and CuCl 2 · 2Н 2 О have the strongest effect on α-Si3N4 formation. The contributions of the metal chlorides and organic compounds to α-Si 3 N 4 formation have been shown to be nonadditive.
