Europium-Doped Lithium Titanate As a Material for the Anodes of Lithium-Ion Batteries

Summary:Lithium titanate doped with europium (0.2 to 2.0 wt %) is prepared via high-temperature solid-phase synthesis. Processes of the lithium insertion into such a material are studied. It is established that doping with europium allows the final potential of the reversible insertion of lithium to 0.01 V to be shifted. It also contributes to an increase in the specific discharge capacity, a reduction in the specific irreversible capacity, and a drop in the polarization of electrodes. It is found that the specific discharge capacity of samples with doping of 1.0–1.6 wt % is 214 mA h/g at a current of 20 mA/g and ~50 mA h/g at a current of 3200 mA/g.
