Synthesis of dinitrochloromethyl pyridine derivatives

Reactions of 2-halo-6-methylpyridine-3,4-dicarbonitriles with nitric acid in the presence of hydrochloric acid led to the formation of 6-(chlorodinitromethyl)-2-halopyridine-3,4-dicarbonitriles.
