Summary: | •The HEA shows excellent corrosion resistance and HER electrocatalytic property.•The HEA shows film resistance of 4586 Ohms.cm2 in a stronger acidic medium.•Galvanic corrosion rate validation was done with error percent of 5.6026 percent.•The highest passive window of 1.0856 V was found in a stronger acid solution.•The HER study shows a good overpotential with outstanding Tafel slope of −68 mV.
This work presents the first experimental and numerical simulation studies on the galvanic corrosion of single-phase face-centered cubic (FCC) Fe25Co25Ni25Cr20V5 high entropy alloy (HEA), successfully synthesized by vacuum arc melting process. According to the simulation and experimental data, the rate of galvanic corrosion was 6.7513 mmpy and 7.152 mmpy, respectively. In 1.2 M sulphuric acid solution, the highest passive window of 1.0856 V and good passivation film resistance of 4586 Ohms.cm2 were noted. The developed HEA's electrocatalytic potential for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in an aqueous electrolyte environment has also been examined. According to the HER investigation, the alloy has good electrocatalytic behavior towards HERs, exhibiting an overpotential of -355.8 mV with a very low Tafel slope (-68 mV/dec).
